Chief Executive Officer of the West Indies Petroleum Limited, WIPL, Charles Chambers, says the entity, which controls approximately 25 to 30% of the local fuel distribution market, is confident of further growth over the medium term as it continues to play a major role in enhancing Jamaica’s energy security.

West Indies Petroleum became operational in 2013 as a bunkering company.

However, Mr. Chambers says the regional energy company has diversified its output and currently services a significant portion of the fuel distribution market with more to come.

Chambers says if necessary West Indies Petroleum could meet the entire fuel demands across Jamaica.

The West Indies Petroleum CEO says the entity is committed to doing what it can to support expansion of the Jamaican economy.

He says even as it expands its role in the fuel distribution sector, the regional energy company will be taking advantage of several opportunities for growth.

Mr. Chambers says West Indies Petroleum has been providing strong competition to the state-owned oil refinery, Petrojam, which for some time played a key role in assisting Jamaica’s energy security.
